The papers consist of material collected by Olwyn Hughes, mainly during the period she acted as literary agent for her brother Ted Hughes. Papers include copies of early appearances of many of Ted Hughes's and Sylvia Plath's poems and essays in literary magazines and newspapers and many newspaper cuttings relating to the work and lives of Ted Hughes, Sylvia Plath and their children. The collection contains no original manuscript material by Ted Hughes or Sylvia Plath.

This series of acdemic off-prints, and hand-outs from acadermic seminars, was accrued by Michael H. Crawford over several decades. Colleagues sent him off-prints of their recently published articles and he was aso gifted much older, important off-prints from others' private collections. The subject matter is predominantly the material culture of the ancient Mediterranean during the ancient Greek, Hellenistic and Roman eras, with a focus upon epigraphy and numismatics.

The collection comprises manuscripts, typescripts, offprints, reviews, insignia, etc. The categories below are, of their nature, not watertight, but cross-references have been supplied wherever possible. References to 'Age and Youth' are to Sir Ernest's memoirs published in 1953. The book includes his earlier, 1948, memoir, 'Father of the man', references to which are given as in the composite volume.
